Each Dragonfly Jewelry Co. piece is thoughtfully handmade using carefully selected materials. With proper care, your jewelry will remain beautiful for years to come. Please follow the guidelines below to protect and preserve your pieces.


General Care Instructions

  • Avoid contact with water, perfumes, lotions, oils, and cleaning products.

  • Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping.

  • Store jewelry in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.

  • Keep pieces in individual pouches or compartments to prevent scratching and tangling.

  • Gently wipe jewelry with a soft, dry cloth after wear to remove oils and residue.

  • Avoid dropping or striking jewelry against hard surfaces.

Metal-Specific Care


Sterling Silver

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time when exposed to air and moisture.

Care Tips:

  • Store in an airtight bag or anti-tarnish pouch when not in use.

  • Clean with a silver polishing cloth.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged water exposure.

  • Regular gentle polishing helps maintain shine.


Gold-Filled

Gold-filled jewelry has a thick layer of real gold bonded to a base metal, offering excellent durability with proper care.

Care Tips:

  • Avoid exposure to water, perfumes, and chemicals.

  • Gently clean with a soft cloth.

  • Store separately to prevent scratching.

  • With proper care, gold-filled jewelry can last many years.


Gold-Plated

Gold-plated jewelry features a thin layer of gold over a base metal and requires extra care.

Care Tips:

  • Avoid water and moisture at all times.

  • Apply perfumes and lotions before wearing.

  • Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth only.

  • Store in a soft pouch to prevent fading and wear.


Brass & Bronze

Brass and bronze naturally oxidize and develop a patina over time.

Care Tips:

  • Store in airtight bags when not in use.

  • Gently polish with a jewelry cloth if shine is desired.

  • Avoid water and humidity.

  • Patina development is natural and part of the material’s character.

Pewter & Black Brass

These metals may darken or patina with time and wear.

Care Tips:

  • Keep dry and store in airtight packaging.

  • Avoid water, perfumes, and chemicals.

  • Gently wipe clean after wear.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or polishing solutions.


Stainless Steel (316L vs. standard stainless steel)

Not all stainless steel is the same. I use high-quality stainless steel components, including 316L surgical-grade stainless steel, in select designs.

316L Stainless Steel (Surgical Grade) is a premium, corrosion-resistant metal commonly used in medical and high-quality jewelry applications.

Benefits of 316L:
  • Waterproof and sweat-resistant
  • Tarnish-resistant
  • Hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin
  • Highly durable for everyday wear
Care Tips:
  • Safe to wear in water, including showering and swimming
  • Rinse with clean water after exposure to saltwater or chlorine
  • Dry thoroughly to maintain long-term shine
  • Clean gently with mild soap and water if needed
*All pieces marked as "waterproof" are made with 316L Stainless Steel.*

Standard stainless steel offers durability and resistance to tarnishing, but is not as corrosion-resistant as 316L.

Benefits:

  • Strong and durable
  • More resistant to tarnishing than many base metals
Care Tips:
  • Water-resistant, but best kept dry
  • Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising.
  • Avoid exposure to saltwater, chlorine, perfumes, and chemicals
  • Wipe clean and dry thoroughly after wear.

 

Zinc Alloy

Zinc alloy is commonly used in decorative charms and detailed components. While lightweight and versatile, it is more sensitive to moisture and chemicals than many other metals.

Care Tips:

  • Keep dry at all times

  • Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising

  • Avoid perfumes, lotions, oils, and cleaning products

  • Store in a dry, airtight container or pouch

  • Gently wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth

*Prolonged exposure to moisture may cause tarnishing or discoloration.*

Stone & Bead Care

  • Avoid water exposure, especially for natural stones, glass beads, and pearls.

  • Do not soak or submerge jewelry.

  • Store carefully to prevent chipping or cracking.

  • Avoid dropping or striking stones against hard surfaces.

Special Pieces & Charms

Some pieces include delicate charms, chains, or hand-assembled components. Please handle these gently to avoid stress on connection points.


Repairs & Support

If your jewelry breaks due to a craftsmanship issue, please contact me within 14 days of delivery. I am happy to offer complimentary repairs and return shipping for approved cases. Normal wear and tear or accidental damage is not eligible for free repair. View Returns & Refunds Policy here.
